Understanding the Canada Express Entry System

Express Entry is a system used in Canada to invite Skilled immigrants.

Canada Express Entry is a system used by the Canadian government to manage applications for permanent residency from skilled workers who want to immigrate to Canada. Before applying through Express Entry, candidates must determine if they meet the eligibility criteria for one of the three main federal economic immigration programs which are:

1.  Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP): For skilled workers with foreign work experience who want to immigrate to Canada permanently.

 2.  Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP): For skilled tradespeople with work experience in specific occupations who want to immigrate to Canada permanently.

 3. Canadian Experience Class (CEC): For skilled workers who have Canadian work experience and want to become permanent residents.

The Steps involved in Express Entry Application are:

Create an Express Entry Profile: If eligible, candidates create an Express Entry profile online. They provide information about their skills, work experience, education, language ability (English and/or French), and other relevant factors. Based on this information, candidates are assigned a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.

Ranking in the Pool: Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria are entered into the Express Entry pool of candidates. They are ranked against each other based on their CRS scores, which consider factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency, and other factors.

Invitation to Apply (ITA): The Canadian government conducts regular draws from the Express Entry pool and issues Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates with the highest CRS scores. Candidates who receive an ITA have 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residency.

Submitting Permanent Residency Application: Candidates who receive an ITA must submit a complete application for permanent residency within the specified timeframe. This includes providing supporting documents, such as police certificates, medical exams, and proof of funds.

Processing of Applications: Once a complete application is submitted, it is processed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Applications are assessed based on eligibility requirements and admissibility factors, such as criminality, security, and medical issues.

Permanent Residency Status: If the application is approved, candidates and their accompanying family members are granted permanent residency in Canada. They receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and can then move to Canada and become permanent residents.
